MADE IN PIEDMONT - WINE TASTING - PRIVATE
Karina Imschoot and Made In Piedmont Wines are organizing from 2026 onwards wine tasting events for private persons and companies, in Dutch, French, English and Italian for an audience of 12 persons or more.
Your sommelier is Karina Imschoot, who has enjoyed three years of sommelier training at the most renowned Italian institute, Associazione Italia Sommelier. By the way, this is a "recognized" institute and not a private initiative as unfortunately there are many in Piemonte but also in other regions. Everyone wants to make some money from "commerce" with wine, that much is clear.
AIS - the abbreviation for Associazione Italiana Sommelier - celebrated its 60th anniversary this year with more than 40,000 trained sommeliers throughout Italy.
Your Piedmont Expert - Karina Imschoot - lived in Piedmont from 2012 to 2019, 3 years in Barbaresco, three years in Barolo and the remaining time in Zoalengo (Monferrato). So it made sense as a Piedmont resident that she received her sommelier training in Piedmont for 3 years, in Italian by the way. Not in the AisAlba establishment but in AisTorino (AisPiemonte) because there the quality of training and bottles to taste was at a much higher level.
For this training Karina had been in the good hands of Piedmont Expert Francesco Gaja, Angelo Gaja's nephew, for three years for hands-on experience. It was Francesco Gaja who would pop into Barbaresco a few times a week with new bottles straight from the barrel from all over Piedmont. Now 81 years old and a graduate enologist, Francesco Gaja had the wealth of information that was still unexplored territory for Karina in 2013. Karina had the opportunity to participate in private dinners with the highest level winemakers from Barolo & Barbaresco, Roero, Astigiano and Monferrato and actually sit directly at the source of all the knowledge. The sommelier training wasdone only to have everything in a good overview and even more detailed framework and of course to have a diploma.
As an ex-Piemontese, one of the locals, so one of them among the winegrowers and others, Karina Imschoot has a few 100 anecdotes to make a technical matter fascinating. And who knows if any secrets will surface????
What does such a tasting look like?
The team at Made In Piedmont Wines provides all materials such as glasses, spittoons, documentation, cooling elements for white, rosé and spumante wines and a printout of the power point presentation.
Instead of bread we provide grissini's as it is realized in Piedmont.
All offers are customized: this "customization" consists of the fee of Karina Imschoot for presentation, transportation and possible accommodation, the number of sommeliers for pouring on site (Mise En Place contracts), the materials, the wines presented in appointment.
If 8 wines are chosen, knowing that Karina Imschoot will do an intro and a wrap up which takes 15 minutes anyway, 2 hours minimum should be provided. Each additional wine is 10 minutes.
Very important: even a non Piedmont Wine connoisseur gets everything explained in the most manageable language. No WSET - language but explanations that even sommeliers in Italy receive at the start of their training without any prior knowledge.
Presentation of a few themes
Barolo/ Barbaresco versus Alto Piemonte Ghemme, Gattinara and Doc's from Alto Piemonte: Sizzano, Boca, Fara, Lessona, Bramattera, Coste della Sesia (8 wines and extension possible with Vespolina, Uva Rara, Erbaluce, and Spumante Erbaluce)
Barolo & Barbaresco, differences between the various soil structures, result in the bottle and the various villages where production highlights
But of course we are open to your suggestions, nothing better than "listening" to your wishes and together arrive at a unique experience for your guests.
Another fact: Karina Imschoot ran one of the most successful event agencies as CEO in Flanders for 16 years before she started in Piemonte with her agency Italia Incentives (originally wine & food events all over Italy), so her knowledge to take your event to a higher level is automatically the highest goal.
We look forward to meeting you and your audience and making it a unique Piedmont event!
