The Langhe, Roero and all of Basso-Piedmont are a privileged area for truffles. And in particular, it is Alba that has always been considered the cradle of the most prized truffle, the white. From October 12 to December 8, 2024, Alba will host the 94th edition of the International White Truffle Fair of Alba. TheWorld Auctionof the White Truffle of Alba, on the other hand, has been organized every year since 1999 at the Castle of Grinzane in Cavour and will take place this year on Sunday, November 10. The Osteria dell'Arco has been around for over 40 years and is a solid and reliable address, sincere in its offerings and familiar in its atmosphere, which never disappoints. You come here with the assurance of staying in a relaxed and cozy atmosphere, of a reasonable selection of wines (especially from the Langhe and Roero) with the possibility of pouring, but above all of enjoying dishes skillfully created between pure tradition and something more creative or that changes depending on the season.

In the same building as the Piazza Duomo restaurant, right in the center, a trattoria that is as 'modern ' in form as it is traditional in content and which, like its blazoned parent company, achieves unquestionable levels of excellence (Three Prawns in the Gambero Rosso's Ristoranti d'Italia guide). The various rooms are decorated with contemporary artwork (the transparent veranda room overlooking the square is particularly charming), the decor is minimalist and the dining room and kitchen are run by young, motivated and highly talented staff. The menu, which changes daily and is displayed on a large blackboard, is very satisfying: you will always find meats and cheeses, hussar salad, wonderful tajarin pasta with sausage ragout or with seasonal truffles, philological agnolotti del plin pasta with toasted sauce, tagliata or tartare of Fassona. The wine list, although focused on the Langhe and Roero, has hundreds of references and a wide selection on tap.

It has not been a good year for Filippo Giaccone, son of the iconic Cesare who passed away in May 2024. Despite the serious loss, Filippo remained focused on his goal, which is to make the great traditional Langa cuisine known and present it in its most authentic form, true to tradition
All this in the cozy old family restaurant, equipped with a couple of small dining rooms (one of which has a fireplace) and an enchanting, panoramic outdoor area. It goes without saying that the menu depends on the season and the ingredients come from reliable suppliers, from meat to vegetables, not to mention the amazing local truffle. Not to be missed are the onions in salt, the knife-whipped raw meat, the handmade tajarin, the rabbit on the spit, the veal loin alla pietra: flavors you won't soon forget. Homemade desserts and breadsticks. Good wine list.

The creation of Paolo Dalla Mora, a talented entrepreneur in both the spirits and restaurant world, and Maurilio Garola (La Ciau del Tornavento in Treiso) is increasingly confirming itself as an address not to be missed in any gourmet's agenda. A modern and dynamic place with a comfortable atmosphere, competent service and a proposal based on excellent raw materials (especially prized meat from all over the world), a supply chain as short and controlled as possible, reinforced in traditional dishes (tajarin and homemade pastas in general are not to be missed) with a high level of enjoyment. Ample choice of wines, degustation menu.

The restaurant is surrounded by vineyards and has two floors, plus a beautiful terrace with a view. This is the domain of chef and owner Stefano Giacosa, whose cuisine pays homage to Piedmontese tradition. The repertoire is classic and you can take advantage of one of the tasting menus in different formulas: in this season, you can opt for the combination with white truffle, which of course increases the price. Rich wine cellar, with options by the glass.

Trattoria Da Bric - Castagnito (CN)
A must visit in the fall when it's truffle time, Bric is an evergreen that knows no wrinkles, a solid bastion of local tradition and always under the same passionate management. The dining room is dated but in the best sense of the word, the view of the surrounding hills alone is worth the visit, and the cuisine, strictly of the area, knows no bounds: here are the agnolotti del plin and tajarin, the cruda and guinea fowl, to name just a few of the house specialties. The service is familiar and welcoming, ready to offer advice, even on the best bottle to uncork (and there's plenty to choose from).

Osteria Tre Case - Serralunga d'Alba (CN)
Below the castle, a beautiful restaurant in contemporary style, entirely in stone, wood and light, spread over two floors and a well-maintained forecourt. Marco Ruata, chef and owner, offers his personal version of traditional cuisine, made with carefully chosen ingredients and a light hand that respects the raw materials. There is no shortage of seafood dishes and, at this time of year, a menu entirely devoted to truffles. The wine cellar is of good size, not encyclopedic but filled with everything available. The service is very attentive, customer-oriented and precise but discreet.
