Sizzano DOC wine was recognized with the DPR (Decree of the President of the Italian Republic) of July 18, 1969, for production with the following grape varieties: Nebbiolo, Uva Rara and Vespolina; the wine must age for three years with at least 24 months in wooden barrels. The wine has a ruby color with hints of garnet red. The aroma is fine and harmonious; the taste is dry and full, with an almondy aftertaste. It is an important and storable wine: its qualities continue to evolve and mature

Composition: 70% Nebbiolo, 25% Vespolina and 5% Uva Rara (note Uva Rara does not mean rare grape but is a grape variety in its own right

Profile: Vineyard: in Sizzano, Vernazzole region, Mot Gilai Valfre and vines for a total of 0.34 ha. South-South/West. Acidic clayey sandy soil.

 

Yield per hectare: 4000 kilos to 5000 kilos.

 

Process: manual harvest in crates in mid-October. Fermentation on the skins, maceration in stainless steel vats for 20-25 days at temperature controlled with pumping over every 6 hours. Malolactic fermentation in stainless steel vats in December/January.

 

Aging and bottling: in stainless steel for the first four months. Aging in oak barrels for 24 months. Bottling during the third year of aging (as directed). Aging in glass for three/four months. Evolution for the first 8 to 10 years

 

 

Aroma: . Intense scent of violet and rose with notes of spice, licorice and coal tar / goudron.

 

Palate: intense, ample and persistent, with well-balanced tannins, a soft, dry taste, with a pleasant aftertaste.

 

Alcohol content: 14.5 percent

 

Serving temperature: 18 to 20 degrees
