MASSIMO ABBATE

Massimo Abbate is an extremely talented wine producer who has recently really come into the picture.

Born in 1983 in Castaglone delle Lanze (near Neive), with training in enology at the famous Scuola di Enologia in Alba, he was first a consultant for the top Piedmontese wineries for 10 years. So he was the one who brought sensory characteristics, and thus quality, to a certain height. After 10 years, he decided that what he did for others, he could do for himself, with his own business.

Massimo Abbate's family had always sold the grapes from their vineyards to the well-known wine trading brokers. From the moment he started his own business, no grapes were sold to others. So in 2015 he took over his parents' winery and started on the 8.5 hectares with grape varieties Moscato, Barbera, Dolcetto and Nebbiolo. Then Sauvignon blanc and Merlot were added.

It wasn't until 2020 that Massimo was able to enter the market with his first wines. He started with Moscato, barely 780 bottles of Langhe Nebbiolo 2018, 780 bottles Barbera d'Asti Superiore. Later Sauvignon Blanc, Bianco Musa, Langhe Rosato were also added. All together, those quantities are larger today - see the quantity with each wine listed separately - but total production remains under 15,000 bottles a year.

Massimo has an enormous respect for nature, goesenormously for maximum quality in vineyard and cantina and has his own identity. This is very visible, for example, in the packaging - first contact of the customer with the wine - where Massimo puts a personal text on the box. At least, for those who order six bottles in cartons.

Massimo's wines, especially the Barbera and Nebbiolo, need food preparation as, by the way, do all wines from Piedmont. Take the test and get the wine from this wine producer with 100% focus on his own identity.
