The canvas is one of the most famous works by the painter Pietro Francesco Guala (Casale Monferrato, 1698 - Milan, 1757), an important artistic figure of the eighteenth century, and portrays seven canons - belonging to some of Lu's most important families - in a letter to Giacomo Millo d'Altare - the apostolic date of Pope Benedict XIV - in which they express their gratitude for having received the permission and privilege of the Holy See in 1748.
