United we are growing, and we appreciate diversity and excellence: this is the message coming from New York, from Barolo & Barbaresco World Opening no. 1 (in 2021 in China, ed.), the great event that brings Piedmontese excellence to the capital of the world. From where even Angelo Gaja, one of the most important and famous Italian producers in the world, a true symbol of the excellence of Piedmont wine, explains the importance of this world event: "No other area of Italian wine had previously brought such a large number of producers abroad.
The message that will come," he explains, "is that Nebbiolo, as a variety, produces wines of very strong identity, which comes from the happiness that Nebbiolo is mainly planted in Piedmont, and there are no comparisons, as happens with merlot, chardonnay or other grape varieties, which give g wines that, at times, you can not recognize where they come from.
"Barolo and Barbaresco - continues Gaja - come from a specific place, they have an extraordinary human factor. Some companies sometimes have small productions, but they are the real ambassadors of our large area". And that is certainly not "only" great wines: "we have a unique gastronomy - as the producer remembers - among which the truffle stands out, but also great writers such as Pavese and Fenoglio, who have written a great story, and we have finally come to put it all on stage".
