Through multiple channels - both through Piedmontese journalists and direct contacts - I have received figures of up to 70% loss...Certainly the wine domains with large volumes have to deal with the problem of getting their wines sent to distant areas such as the US. Indeed, many big names have a 70% export to the United States, China, etc..Exports that are designed for traditional transport, not fast transport.
Some 200 wine domains have recently taken part in initiatives such as Robert Parker's wine tour in the US. With a Covid-19 just afterwards, the results will undoubtedly not be as optimal as before.
More and more we see small estates taking initiatives in which local sales are increasing but with extra costs such as delivery by the winery to the end customer in a ratio of 30 km around the cantina. An initiative with success by the way!  Centovigne, for example, has tapped into a clientele in a short period of time that is completely new and used to buy wines in supermarkets.
What worries me most, taking into account that I myself lived for 6,5 years between the vineyards in Barbaresco and Cherasco, is how to solve the problem of the workers in the vineyard who for the most part are Romanians, Macedonians, etc... and have already left for their homeland to join their families. All kinds of initiatives are being taken to get these workers back to Alba in a month if Corona issues prevent this.  Another special point is the cooperatives where the grapes are sold and one grape variety is used to make one or more wines that are mainly sold to tourists. At the moment the local is rediscovering the wine domains but how is this going to evolve with the end product of a cooperative?
What about the delivery of your wines?
"Keep calm and drink our wines because we have taken more than enough stock.
In this period Made In Piedmont Wines is using more expensive means of transport such as DHL, TNT Express from Italy without the end customer paying one eurocent more. For example, transport from Italy - except weekends - is guaranteed in 2 to 3 days. So if we don't have a wine in stock, the wine will be at the end customer's place in a maximum of 5 days, provided of course that a weekend doesn't fall in the middle of it. But there is more than enough stock taken from the exclusive wineries in our range.
Also the wines from other wineries such as those you find in our Global Wine List are always in 5 to 7 days at the customer's maximum.  Link: https://www.madeinpiedmont-wines.be/gifts--wine-tasting-box/global-wine-list-piemonte/winepricelist
