Antica Cascina dei Conti di Roero & Green Experience

Antica Cascina dei Conti di Roero & Green Experience
The Antica Cascina was once part of the feudal estate of the noble Roero family, present in the region between the 14th and 18th centuries. More recently it was owned by the famous coffee merchant Deorsola of Torino, before being bought in 1957 by the current owner Daniela Olivero's family. From a traditional 'fattoria' (farm), growing various crops and raising cattle, the Antica Cascina dei Conti di Roero took the decision in 1975 to focus 100% on the vine. In the 80's the wines were commercially bottled for the first time, and in 1995 the then 8 ha estate was transferred to Daniela Olivero & her husband Luigi Roagna.
The estate now measures 13ha, 70% of which is located in the municipality of Vezza d'Alba, 20% in Canale, & 10% in Monteu Roero. The main menzione geografiche aggiuntive (MGA) are Sant'Anna, where the cantina is located, & Sru, a cru closer to Canale. Sea sand over marble dominates the geology of Vezza d'Alba & Monteu Roero, while Canale (Sru) is richer in clay. The average age of Nebbiolo d'Alba vines is 30 years (for Nebbiolo d'Alba), while Roero DOCG Vigna Sant'Anna comes mainly from a 1ha plot planted in 1954.
They focus on the production of Roero Arneis (from Vezza d'Alba & Canale), Langhe Favorita (Vezza d'Alba & Canale), Nebbiolo d'Alba (Vezza d'Alba), Roero DOCG (Monteu Roero & Vezza d'Alba). In the year 2018 they will produce a single vineyard Roero Arneis from the Sru vineyard near Canale.
Daniela & Luigi adhere to "The Green Experience" (thegreenexperience.it) which promotes green, environmentally friendly and sustainable viticulture (promotes biodiversity, respect for the soil, no chemical weed control, conservation of birds & insects, traceability).
