The winemaker Francesco Brigatti himself speaks:
Wine 1: Mötfrei
Francesco Brigatti, the winemaker himself, talks about this wine: Mötfrei is the dialectical name of the hill on the slopes of which the grape variety that forms the basis of this wine is grown.
The local dialect from the village of Suno gives "Möt" as the translation of "hill" and "Frei" as that of "Porcini Mushrooms", hence the meaning.
This elegant single-varietal, Nebbiolo-based wine is aged for 18 months in French oak tonneaux. The unique microclimate and the careful selection of the grapes through green harvesting are crucial in giving character and structure to this wine.
Mötfrei, however, is never excessively full-bodied, but instead shows a fine balance between floral, spicy and balsamic notes, which never overpower the notes of the wooden barrel.
We recommend a serving temperature of around 18-20°C and uncorking the bottle some time before consumption.
Our choice to raise this wine in tonneaux rather than the classic medium-sized barrels is deliberate and shows the incredible versatility of our Nebbiolos. Our Mötfrei offers a unique sensory experience that combines a great mineral print with sweeter secondary aromas from small oak barrel.
Wine 2: Mötziflon
Mötziflon is the dialectical name of the hill on which the grapes that form the basis of this wine are grown. The local dialect from the village of Suno gives "Möt" as the translation of "hill" and "Ziflon" as that of "Robin" or "songbird", hence the meaning.
Based on a blend of Nebbiolo (85%) Vespolina (10%) and Uva Rara (5%) grapes, this wine was aged for twenty months in traditional oak barrels from Slavonia. The austere tannin-based structure and precise acidity are the characteristics that truly distinguish the Nebbiolo wines of Alto Piemonte and make them increasingly complex and elegant over time.
We suggest serving Mötziflon at a temperature of 18/20° C and uncorking the bottle some time before consumption.
"The maturation in wood makes the flavours more complex and helps to soften the tannins, this ultimately creates an overall very pleasant balance between all the components. Mötziflon is our flagship wine with an extraordinary combination of spicy notes from the Vespolina and acidity from the indigenous Uva Rara.
